Joe Keohane is the author of forthcoming book, The Power of Strangers: The Benefits of Connecting in a Suspicious World.
In it he looks at why we don't talk to strangers, what happens when we do, and how we can get better at it. He finds that talking to strangers can do everything from helping us feel happier, healthier, and wiser, to alleviating some of our thorniest social problems, from loneliness to political polarization. He is a veteran journalist who has held high-level editing positions at Medium, Esquire, Entrepreneur, and Hemispheres. And his writing on everything from politics, to travel, to social science, business, and technology has appeared in New York magazine, The Boston Globe, The New Yorker, Wired, Boston magazine, and The New Republic.
